I Sharped It!
My two year old daughter, Grace, just discovered the built-in crayon sharpener on her crayon box. She thinks it’s the coolest thing to stick a dull crayon in there and it comes out sharpened.
After sharpening her ‘brick red’ crayon for about the thousandth time, she proudly exclaimed, “I sharped it!”
How cute…she sharped it! Obviously, she meant to say she sharpened it, but that word was still a little too big for her to say completely with all the syllables intact.
This is still perfectly acceptable for a toddler at two and half years of age to leave off the syllables of multi-syllabic words or in other words, long words!
For example, if your two and half year old says ‘frigerator’ or even ‘fridge’ instead of ‘refrigerator’, that’s o.k.! They are still learning how to speak properly and pronounce all the syllables correctly in words.
They’ll get it…and rememember…keep talking!
